Thread and Thread Wraps

I have an embroidery machine which is a lot of fun!!!  I especially like making quilt labels with it.

Tonight I decided to organize all of my machine embroidery thread.  My husband thought it was funny that I was putting all of the spools in order according to their color and number!  I even had a list!!!  Since I was incorporating my friend's threads in with mine, I thought it was a great opportunity to make sure they were all in order.  I also wanted to make sure all of the loose ends  of thread on the opened spools were secured with thread wraps since these spools don't have the usual slit to secure the end of the thread.

I did try to take a picture of my thread wraps so I could show them to you but since they are clear........that didn't work out so well!!!   The rayon embroidery thread I use comes off of the spool easily.   I don't like loose threads getting tangled, and I don't like paying high prices,  so I make my own vinyl wraps to keep them under control.  I buy thin vinyl by the yard.  Using an old blade (so I don't dull a new one) in my rotary cutter, I cut the vinyl into 1½" x 6" strips.  I wrap one around each spool to hold the thread in place.  The vinyl "sticks" to itself and can be used over and over again.  If they don't stick easily I breathe on them and they work great.
