Snow Day = Quilt Day!
Yeah!!! Today was a snow day. My phone rang at 5:38 am with a message telling me that school was closed due to severe weather conditions. I won't be too happy when we have to make the day up by going an extra day in June, but when a snow day happens it is very special. It is an unexpected amount of time. You are home without plans for which chores you need to get done.
I put my robe on and made a pot of coffee. I sat on the couch, wrapped in the Froggie quilt, watching the news and weather, drinking coffee while my husband got ready for work and plowed our driveway. While he went out on a service call I did a load of laundry, a few dishes and took my shower.
We went out for a late breakfast with some friends. The conversation turned to quilting and a new member to our group is interested in having a custom quilt made and will meet with me at the end of the week. I should start every day like this.
When we returned home, and my husband returned to work, I made some fresh coffee and went to my studio. It wasn't even noon yet so I still had the whole day ahead of me. I made good use of my time. I loaded a new quilt on my longarm machine and began quilting. I am doing one-of-a-kind heirloom quilting on this quilt and was able to get alot done with my uninterrupted hours to work on it. I also took some time to cut out the pieces for an Apple Core quilt that I am going to make. I even had a little time to sort through and press some of the narrow scraps I'm saving for a string quilt.
Snow days would not be special if we had them often but this one was a nice treat and I feel like I am a step or two ahead for the upcoming weekend.
Happy Quilting,
Laurel
