My New Featherweight Baby

Happy National Sewing Month to me!!!

I am always checking out Singer Featherweight Machines and weaving looms on EBay, Craig's List, at estate sales, garage sales, auctions and anywhere else I can find them.  The machines are often incomplete, not in working order, left to rust and rot or very beat-up with really high price tags.

I have a fondness for Featherweights because my mother had one and it's what my sisters and I learned to sew on when I was a little girl. I began sewing when I was six years old and that was a long time ago so I have many, many memories that include mom's machine in one way or another including the time my eldest sister sewed right through her finger... ouch!!!

I was checking things out on Craig's list the other day and I spotted this beauty!!! She looked good, was not only complete but also had many extra's, and was priced beyond fair. There was no phone number so I responded on the computer (which never seems to work for me) and the owner called me the next day.  He seemed happy that I have a love for this model as this one had belonged to a family member.

Although my husband seemed to think I was a little crazy for wanting yet another sewing machine, he agreed to take me to check it out even though it was about an hour and a half away from our home. We made arrangements to go on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday morning, my husband got called out to work. I thought we were going to be unable to go until I found out that his service call was only a few minutes away from this beautiful new baby! I rode with him and we were able to meet with the machine's owner.

Needless to say, she is perfect and runs like a dream!!!  Since everything so neatly fell into place.... my response actually worked on the computer, my husband got called to the right place, the machine is perfect and the price was right... I figured it was meant to be!

After all, I had survived the beginning of the school year (my 35th year of teaching) and it is National Sewing Month.....

I am happy to have this  new-to-me Featherweight 221K.  I think she's happy to have a new home. My husband may still think I'm a little crazy but he does support me in what I love to do and for that, I am thankful.

Happy Quilting,
Laurel
