It's the Little Things

I don't often use plaids for large portions of quilts, especially the backs, because I am a fanatic about making the lines match.

Fabric Photo

One of my clients asked me to find the backing fabric for one of his quilts.  This plaid is perfect.  It is a deep red fabric with gold and black lines making the plaid design.  As luck would have it, both the red and the gold match two of the colors in the quilt top perfectly.  The outer border of the scrappy quilt is gold too.

I tried to find another fabric to use but kept coming back to this one because it is so perfect for this project.  I decided to go ahead and use this beautiful fabric.  Since the quilt is 95 x 95, the backing had to be pieced.  I got a fresh cup of coffee and began to tackle the task of matching the plaid.   I was so happy that the fabric decided to cooperate with me.  This photo shows where three different seams come together.  I think once this is quilted, the seams will barely be able to be detected!  It's the little things like this that make me happy.

I've been a little under the weather (nothing serious, just a touch of the flu) and it really felt good to be able to spend most of the day  today in my studio being productive.  Having these seams match up for me so beautifully was a bonus!!!

Happy Quilting,
Laurel
