Floral Panel Quilt
I saw a wall hanging made from one of these floral panels and just had to make a quilt!!
I cut the selvedges off of the panel and made sure the edges were straight. My panel ended up being 43 1/2" long. Then I cut the center strip 10 1/2" wide, next are 4 1/2" wide, then 3 1/2", 2 1/2" and lastly 1 1/2".
Leaving the center strip whole, I then cut 2" off each end of the 4 1/2" wide strips, 4" off each end of the 3 1/2" strips, 6" off each end of the 2 1/2" strips and 8" off the 1 1/2" strips.
I added background fabric, to the top and bottom, to make each strip 55 1/2" long. Background fabric was also used to cut 1 1/2" sashing to place between the floral strips and for 5" pieces on the right and left sides.
Remaining pieces of the floral panel were used to make a 1" (cut 1 1/2") framing border.
Finally, I cut 7" strips of background fabric for the outer border.
I found the perfect backing, quilted a free motion design with my longarm machine and wrapped the backing around to the front for a stunning border.
I can't wait to find another panel to try this technique on.
Happy Quilting,
Laurel
