Easy, Inexpensive Cutting Table

Not everybody has the need, money or space for a permanent cutting table.  Most people use their kitchen table, dining room table or banquet table as a cutting table to layout and cut out quilts.  Although using one of these tables as a cutting table will work,  I always end up with a sore back for a day or two because those tables are a little bit too low and standing half bent over for hours pulls on the wrong muscles.

I have found a solution ----- and better yet, I have found an inexpensive solution ----- and even better yet, I found this inexpensive solution on clearance!!!

The solution: bed risers (aka bed stands)!!! Bed risers are plastic pieces that you place under the legs of a bed to raise the bed further off of the floor to create more space under the bed for storage or to make it easier to get out of the bed in the morning.  If you place these stands under the legs of your kitchen table, dining room table or banquet table, they raise the table to a comfortable height for rotary cutting or laying out your quilt pieces.  When you're finished cutting, you can put the table back on the floor and set the table for dinner!

Bed risers come in a set of four and usually cost around $20.00 to $25.00 for the set.  I would not have thought to look at an office supply store for this item but when I ran into Staples for some supplies I saw them -- on the clearance rack -- for less than $5.00!!!!! These six-inch risers bring my table to a perfect height.  If you have a Staples near you it's worth checking out.  I do love a bargain.

I get a kick out of being able to use non quilt related items in my quilting.  I am always on the look-out for things I can use in quilting and am pleased to find unique ways to use everyday items.

Happy Quilting,
Laurel
