The mug is sitting on an old "Grandmother's Flower Garden" quilt. When my beloved Aunt Betty passed away, the pieces of this quilt in progress were found in a bag in her basement. My cousin knew I would do something with it and gave it to me. Aunt Betty had been piecing the quilt top by hand so that's how I finished the piecing. I did, however, quilt the quilt on my long arm machine. Some of the fabrics were a little week with age but I wanted to use all of the original fabrics so I quilted with a close meandering to add strength to the quilt. I adore having this keepsake. I love that I was able to finish my aunt's work and bring this quilt to life.
This is one of my family's favorite "comfort quilts". In our house, a confort quilt is the one you reach for to help you feel better. It will comfort you whether you are sick, sad, upset or fighting a winter chill in your bones.
I am anxious to hear about your favorite quilt pattern. Perhaps you'll make a comfort quilt of your own!
