Quilter's Family

Baskets and Bows

BasketsBasketsRing PillowRing PillowI have been chipping away at my "to do list" and made alot of progress.  I'll admit I do get pleasure from being able to cross things off of the list!!!

My son is getting married soon and I have been working on some items for the big day.  The smaller basket is for the flower girl.  I dye  my own reed and made a deep purple to add a little color to the basket.  Before the big day, purple cascading ribbons will be tied to both sides of the handles.  Instead of a traditional rim on this basket, I made a rolled rim out of round read.

National Quilting Day

I hope you found a fun way to celebrate National Quilting Day today ( I guess technically it was yesterday, but, I haven't gotten to bed yet so it's "today" to me).

I was able to do a little bit of fabric shopping in between the shopping to find something to wear to our son's upcoming wedding.  I also met with a quilting friend who brought three quilts for me to quilt for her.  My husband took me out for brunch. When I got home I threw in a load of laundry and played with fabric for awhile.  I sorted through some of the scraps I have and cut some l½" squares for the Charm Square Postage Stamp Quilt and ordered a few new dies for my Accuquilt machine.  I also attached a quilt to the machine to be quilted.

All in all it was a good day.

Well, I feel like an empty nester all over again!!! Our visitor from Australia is gone and our daughter and grandson went home.  This was a wonderful, very busy week.  I enjoy having people in the house and especially enjoy spending time with my grandson.

Now that it's just my husband and I in the house again, it's time for me to get back to work and build momentum to finish the WIPs (works in progress) that I have in various stages of completion.  I have a quilt that is ready for the binding to be attached, one on the machine ready to be quilted, blocks finished and ready to be assembled, some of the squares cut for a quilt and several other projects waiting to be started!!!

And A Quilt Grandma

There is a really cute little boy sleeping next to me on the couch.  We had a long day.  My grandson was at my son's house playing with his new cousin all day.  After I picked him up we went to dinner with my husband and some friends.  On the way home, he was getting very sleepy.  He said, "Grandma, I need my jammies, a pillow and a quilt."

When we got home he immediately put his jammies on and curled up on the couch, beside me,  with a quilt, and fell asleep.

Life is good.

Happy Quilting,

AustraliaAustraliaWe had a whirlwind weekend.

Friday evening my husband and I drove to O'Hare International Airport and picked up a guest visiting from Australia.  He came to the United States to attend the Drupal Conference in Chicago and would stay with us until Monday when the conference began.  Later that night, some friends stopped by for coffee and to meet our Australian friend.

Fall Quilt

Autumn QuiltAutumn QuiltMy soon to be daughter-in-law loves Fall (Autumn).  It is absolutely her favorite season.  I made this Fall quilt and presented it to her at her wedding shower yesterday.  She seemed to like it alotSmile.

I saw these beautiful, sixteen and a half inch panels at Keepsake Quilting and couldn't pass them up. WheatWheat

Hobo Quilts

Hobo QuiltsHobo QuiltsI remember hobos.  As a child I used to watch trains pass and cross my fingers in hopes I would see hobos in the empty cars. (Oh boy, I just aged myself, didn't I?)  Often, we would stop our game of baseball or tag to wave and they would usually wave back.  We were taught to stay away from the hobos if they left the train because they were strangers but there was something mysterious about them and we tried very hard to see them when a train went by.

Decisions, Decisions

I have long admired my sister-in-law's talent and work with stained glass.  She makes absolutely beautiful works of art.

For a long time I have wanted a stained glass lamp.

I am very excited that I have spoken to her and we are going to work on a project together.  I am going to make a new quilt for our bed and she is going to make a stained glass lamp for me that will match the quilt.  This is awesome!!!  She is going to make the lamp match the quilt pattern I choose for my quilt.

Yesterday my family gathered together for our "Christmas" celebration.  I have to say, I had a great time.  (We were unable to get together during the actual holiday season because the flu came to visit.)  It seemed that since the holiday season is already over,  the stress of the holiday was over too!  We talked, ate, teased, ate, laughed, and talked some more.   The weather held out and everyone was safe while traveling back to their homes.

I See Quilts Everywhere!

So, I was being a very good girl today getting ready for a family gathering tomorrow.  Since we were sick during the Christmas Season, we postponed our family get-together.  It was difficult for me to work on getting things prepared for this fun time and avoid the temptation to go to my studio and sew!!!  I did, however, gather my self control and worked on the housework, shopping and food preparations.
