Quilter's Family

Project Progress

Yesterday I was able to get outside and pull a few weeds from a couple of flowerbeds around my house.  I did get tired but the weather had cooled off and it felt really good to have my hands in the dirt again.  I'm making good progress with my recovery and it feels good to be able to get some work done.

I got a good night's sleep and intended to get an early start this morning and attack some more of the weeds but the weather is cold and rainy so I grabbed a cup of coffee and read some of my book.  It's hard to believe that it was 98° and sunny at the beginning of the week and it was 48°, cloudy and rainy today!!!

With my second cup of coffee I sat with my computer and entered the rest of my requirements needed to renew my teaching certificate.

Replacing Missing Quilt Top

At the beginning of February,  my sister mailed a quilt top to me to be quilted.  The quilt top was stolen from the mail and never reached me.

We were both intriqued with the Jelly Roll Race quilt and we both collect frogs (like our mom had) so we used fabrics from my stash and made Froggy Jelly Roll Race quilts.

Using Your Noodle

I am having a wonderful week.  My sister is here for a visit and we are having a great time.  We are talking, eating, planning quilting projects and catching up on everything!!!

Happy Birthday/Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!

As it happens, today is also my birthday!  I was fortunate enough to  see my son, my daughter-in-law, my daughter and my grandson today!  My husband and I enjoy their visits and had a great day.

Happy Quilting,

Sister's Trip

My sister has finished another quilt top!!!  I am very excited that she is planning a trip to visit me and quilt this quilt.

Since the last quilt top she made disappeared from the mail and I recieved an empty box, she will not mail this one to me.   I'm sorry she experienced trouble with the mail, but I am very happy that I get a visit out of the deal!I love the idea that we will be working on this project together.

Besides finishing her quilt, I am making a list of the other things I'd like to do while she's here.  I am feeling better and want to do more so my list is becoming so long that we probably will not be able to complete half of it !  Part of the fun is planning and my long list will at least give my sister some choices.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter!  I hope each and every one of you had a great Easter.  No matter how you celebrate, I hope you had an enjoyable weekend.

Even though I wasn't able to host a day for the whole extended family yet but my husband, daughter, grandson, son, daughter-in-law and I spent time together and that made me very happy.  We had a nice dinner (nobody even complained that we ate in the living room using TV trays because I have my sewing machine and project set up on the dining table!) and watched a family movie together.  This afternoon, I needed a nap!!!

I hope you enjoyed some happiness with friends and/or family members this weekend.

Happy Quilting,
Laurel

Preparing for Recovery

Serch EngineSerch EngineInventory ControlInventory ControlWhile I was preparing for my surgery, I knew that  my recovery would  be at least several weeks and I would not be allowed to do stairs or lift anything much for awhile so I decided to gather and prepare some projects I could do by hand while recooperating.

After cutting a ton of Tumbler Charm Pieces, collecting things for a knitting project, gathering reading materials and cutting Apple Core Pieces I remembered these panels once purchased at a quilt show.  These are wonderfully whimsical panels that need to be colored with fabric markers before being added to a quilt.

They Want Quilts

We have some out-of-town guests this weekend and I'm in my glory.  I love when the house is full of friends, family and laughter.

My grandson had a birthday and we celebrated with dinner, some gifts and, of course, a cake.

Our weather is supposed to be very cold tonight and when it came time for bed and settling in I offered extra covers to our guests.  It did my heart good to hear my guests asking for my quilts instead of blankets.  I always prefer quilts to blankets and it's nice to know others do too!!!  Quilts not only provide warmth but also a special kind of comfort.

Quilt Stolen

FrogsFrogsI always try to see the good in people.  My mother taught me this.  She was the kindest, sweetest person and she truly believed that everyone had good in them.

Today, I am having trouble with this theory.

First Blizzard

Yesterday I came directly home from school as the snow was falling fast and thick.  Although I drive a Jeep with four-wheel drive, some drivers act crazy on bad roads and I didn't want any part of it.  The roads were snow-covered and slippery.  The snow was falling at a rate of one inch per hour so the snowplows were unable to keep up.

This was our first blizzard of the year and I was very excited.  Not excited for the snow so much as having a good excuse to grab a hot cup of coffee and hide away in my studio!!!  I made great progress on the signature quilt I am working on.  I worked for awhile on the rug I'm making on my weaving loom and I found a bag of scraps I had stowed away so I started pressing and sorting them.
