Quilter's Family

Fifty Years

quiltquiltblockblockI had the extreme honor and pleasure to create a signature quilt for my sister and brother-in-law who were celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

I provided fabric squares (I cut these 8½" this time for a 8" finished square) and pens  (I like using Micron Fabric Pens)  at the party and let the guests work their magic.  I am always amazed with the variety of ideas people express on their square....everything from a simple "Congratulations" to elaborate poems and drawings.

At the end of the evening I collected the squares, took them back to my studio and worked my magic!!

New Baby, New Quilts!

PlatesPlatesMotorcyclesMotorcyclesSophiaSophiaMy husband and I are thrilled that we are grandparents and have celebrated the birth of our third grandchild. This new little baby boy bundle of joy, of course, needs to have quilts!!!  Since he was receiving his first quilts, I decided to make a new quilt for his big sister too. Smile

Mini Tumblers

Doll QuiltDoll QuiltI have been crazy about Tumblers lately.  I have been grabbing every Tumbler die of every size that I can find.  I found a die for these little two inch Tumblers and started cutting scraps.

Cutting leads to sewing and before I knew it I had created a little doll quilt for my granddaughter. She will be two years old in May and is loving her baby dolls and stuffed animals.

I added a narrow white border and used a lavender and white backing.  Even though this is a very small project, I quilted it on my longarm machine in a Wandering Loops design.

This special little quilt will be well loved and well used.....for now, to wrap up a stuffed animal puppy!

Robots Take Five

QuiltQuiltMy daughter and grandson have moved into their new home.  They moved to be closer to my daughter's new job.  It is always exciting to start a new chapter in your life.  It can also be alot of work and a little scary.

On a recent fabric shopping trip, I found some wonderful robot fabric and purchased it to create a new quilt for my grandson's new bedroom.  I think having a new quilt to snuggle under helps you feel more comfortable while getting used to a new place.

While my grandson was here for a visit, he helped me quilt this new quilt.  I love making memories with my grandchildren and this is certainly a good one!

Shopping Fun

RobotsRobotsCute FishCute FishA friend and I decided to run out for a little fabric shopping.  Neither one of us really needed anything so of course we found alot that we just couldn't live without!!

I found these awesome robots and couldn't pass them up.  My grandson loves robots and since they will be moving into a new home soon, I thought he would like a new quilt and maybe some curtains for his new bedroom.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I hope you have a wonderful day full of food, family, friends and fun.

I love Thanksgiving. I like the fact that we celebrate this holiday by gathering with family and friends and being thankful for everything meaningful.

This evening, after the effect of the turkey wears off, I hope you can find some time for quilting!!!

Happy Thanksgiving,
Happy Quilting,

Accuquilt Snowmen

SnowmanSnowmanI recently got these two dies from Accuquilt.

Although these dies are for the Accuquilt Go and I have the Accuquilt Studio machine, I can use them with my machine because I also purchased the adapter which makes this possible.  I am very happy that Accuquilt came out with the adapter which helps make my machine more versatile than ever.

Monday was a day off of school for Columbus Day. A friend and I had a quilting day together. It was wonderful. We had alot of fun talking and "playing". She also has an Accuquilt machine and we were comparing our dies and coming up with many new project ideas to use them for.

Bargello

ViewViewView twoView twoIt was so hard to keep this beautiful quilt a secret!!!

My sister made this gorgeous Bargello quilt to be given to her granddaughter on her wedding day.  I got to quilt this beauty for her but had to promise not to show it to you until after the wedding.  We certainly didn't want the Bride-to-be to spot it and ruin the surprise!

The wedding was last weekend so I get to let the cat out of the bag!!!  Of course the Bride and Groom love this wonderful gift.  I think it's nice that I get to show it to you during National Sewing Month!

Signature Quilts

How exciting it is that I get to make two more signature quilts!!

One of my nieces was married this weekend and one of my great-nieces is getting married next weekend.  I made up two sets of materials so they would be ready for the wedding receptions.  The kits include fabric squares, oatmeal paper (to set the fabric on while writing so it doesn't slip around), permanent fabric markers and directions (framed and set near the supplies to explain the project).  After the fabric squares are completed with signatures and well wishes, I will turn them into a beautiful quilted keepsake of their special day.

I can't wait to see their faces when their quilts are completed!

Happy Quilting,
Laurel

Sisters

OneOneMy sister and I had a wonderful visit.  I was very sad to see her go home.  We never have enough time together to get all of the things done that we plan!

We did go to our niece's bridal shower, introduced her to my new granddaughter, dined at some of our favorite restaurants, shopped at some of our favorite stores, ordered our favorite pizza and, of course, spent time quilting and playing with fabric.

This Batik beauty is one of the quilts I quilted for my sister.  I am fascinated with Batiks and love the combination of blues and browns.  Just looking at this quilt makes me feel cozy, comfortable and warm.
