Signature Quilts

How exciting it is that I get to make two more signature quilts!!

One of my nieces was married this weekend and one of my great-nieces is getting married next weekend.  I made up two sets of materials so they would be ready for the wedding receptions.  The kits include fabric squares, oatmeal paper (to set the fabric on while writing so it doesn't slip around), permanent fabric markers and directions (framed and set near the supplies to explain the project).  After the fabric squares are completed with signatures and well wishes, I will turn them into a beautiful quilted keepsake of their special day.

I can't wait to see their faces when their quilts are completed!

Happy Quilting,
Laurel

Flower Baskets

Flower BasketsFlower BasketsI had the opportunity to quilt this beautiful Flower Basket Quilt for a friend.  When her sister passed away she found this quilt top that she had made.

BasketBasketThe baskets are pieced from a pink floral print on a white-on-white background.

BackingBackingI had a perfect subtle print to use for  the backing and the binding of the quilt.

34 Years and Counting

Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated our thirty-fourth wedding anniversary!  We decided we are looking forward to the next thirty four years together Smile.

We had another busy, wonderful week with our grandson.  Our last chance to spend time together before the beginning of the school year.  We also got to have an awesome day with both of our children and their families together for dinner.  There is nothing I like more than when we are all together.

Jury Duty

SquaresSquaresSummer seems to be flying by.  There are not enough hours in a day to get everything done that I want to get done and having Jury Duty this week sure didn't help!

I will say that it was an interesting experience to serve on a jury for a criminal case.  I was fortunate to work with a good group of people.  Although deliberations were long and hard, I believe we agreed on the best verdict.  Still.....I was there several days and it really cut into my quilting time. It really felt good to get back to my studio today.

Beautiful Applique

BlockBlockWhen this quilt was brought to me to be quilted, I was excited to have the opportunity to work on it.  These beautiful Antique Peonies are appliqued to a white block and set on point.

The creator of this quilt did a fantastic job with the placement of so many pieces in each block.  It couldn't have been an easy undertaking.  The results are stunning.

I outlined the floral pieces in the large blocks and the designs appliqued in the cornerstones.  I quilted repeated loops in the green rails, leaving the center, red rails, unquilted.

One of the best things about being a long-arm quilter is that I get to see many, many different quilts.  I get to work

Sisters

OneOneMy sister and I had a wonderful visit.  I was very sad to see her go home.  We never have enough time together to get all of the things done that we plan!

We did go to our niece's bridal shower, introduced her to my new granddaughter, dined at some of our favorite restaurants, shopped at some of our favorite stores, ordered our favorite pizza and, of course, spent time quilting and playing with fabric.

This Batik beauty is one of the quilts I quilted for my sister.  I am fascinated with Batiks and love the combination of blues and browns.  Just looking at this quilt makes me feel cozy, comfortable and warm.

So Excited

I am so very excited!  My dear sister is coming for a visit!  We have lots of quilting to do, discuss, and plan.  We have both made lists of things we want to accomplish while we have this time together but we have found that we never have enough time to get everything done!

Happy Fourth

Happy Independance Day to all of you!  We often think of the Fourth of July as a day for picnics, parties, cook outs, swimming pools and fireworks.  While these things are all wonderful fun, I think it is important for us in the United States of America to remember why we celebrate this day.  With this in mind...I hope you enjoy your day whether you are spending it alone or in the company of family and friends.

I have been spending the day with my family. I also had some time to spend in my studio, and will be grilling our dinner in a little while.  This evening, we will enjoy watching fireworks from our own yard.  Our neighbors put on quite a display and we can see the fireworks shows from five of the surrounding towns.

Back to Business

Pink RibbonPink RibbonI am happy to say that my husband is feeling well and doing so much better.  He is back to work and back to being his old self.  I feel like summer has really just begun and I am busy with the normal activities of cleaning, yardwork and, of course, quilting!

Happy Ending

I knew this week would be a very busy one considering we had Father's Day, my son's birthday and my husband's birthday to celebrate.  What I didn't expect was the ugly turn that this week took and the reality that our lives can change in the blink of an eye.

Our world was turned upside down when my dear husband had a heart attack.  Fortunately, he hung on and after an angiogram and the placement of a stent is doing well.

It was obvious my husband was beginning to feel better when his sense of humor began to return.  He had been hospitalized on his birthday and started telling everyone that he knew I was planning to get him something special this year......he just hadn't realized what I had in mind!
